In PCB production, whether the copper layer is manufactured by addition method or subtraction method, the final product will be a smooth and unprotected surface. Pure copper and oxygen in the air contact is easily oxidized, oxidized copper will become a poor conductor of electricity, greatly damage the electrical performance of the whole PCB board.

In order to prevent copper oxidation, to separate the welded and non-welded parts of the PCB and to protect the surface of the PCB, design engineers invented a special coating: soldermask. This soldermask is applied on the surface of PCB board to form a protective layer of certain thickness and block the contact betweem copper and air. The soldermask are green, blue,black... these distinction, finally presented in front of us is the green board, blue board, black board and other colors of the circuit board.

Green board features:

1. Due to the particularity of the production process of PCB board, the quality inspection process of many circuit must still rely on naked eye observation and identification. Green is less harmful to eyes and is not easy to produce a sense of fatigue.

2. Due to the process of production, green is the mainstream, so the purchase amount of natural green paint will be larger, and the purchase cost of green paint will be lower relative to other coloes. At the same time, the use of the same coloe paint in mass production can also reduce the cost of production line replacement.

3. When the boar is soldering in SMT, it needs to go through the Tin and patch as well as the final AOI verification. These process require optical positioning and calibration, green background color is better for the instrument recognition effect.

Blue board features

1. The color is novel and high-grade.

2. Blue solder mask lacks hardness also is easy to rub, and defactive products will increase when PCB manufacturers produce it.

3. Blue solder mask has large flow easy to accumulate oil and uneven oil. During production, PCB needs to be placed flat rather than vertical, which takes up more space.

4. The baking plate takes a long time and is easy to be dirty. It is easy to stick film prints after packaging.

Black board features

Because its surface wiring is almost completely covered, resulting in great difficulties for later maintenance, it is not very convenient to manufacture and use a color. Moreover, black PCB has a high difficulty in holes, then the yield of good products is relatively lower than that of other color PCB boards, the price of black is relatively more expensive.
